| Richmond Rovers Rugby League & Sports Club board of directors are pleased to announce the appointment of Henry Turua as the new Premier team manager, effective from Wednesday 12th January 2022. Over the past few months, the board have undertaken a review of the strategic plan and identified areas that require renewed focus and energy, including a highly skilled team manager to lead the senior men’s and women’s squad into its next exciting phase. Recruitment for this role commenced in September of 2021, and the recruitment sub-committee were pleased with the response and talent interested in the position once the announcement of our Premier and Premier 1st coaches was formalised. Following an intense process of interviews and ratification from the wider BOD, the talent, commitment, knowledge, and passion the entire club was seeking was indeed the acting Premier team manager, Henry Turua. “Henry has proven that he has great leadership and management style which has already made a positive impact on the club as he has featured on the playing field for Richmond, Marist Richmond Brothers, New Zealand Residents, Auckland Vulcan’s, Cook Islands rugby league and returned as a valued Richmond Masters member," said chairman Gus Fepuleai. "He has developed strong relationships with a number of people within the game including as those at international level with the Cook Islands rugby league. "From 20 years’ experience working in sports coaching and education, his community engagement is exceptional and the fact that he has been at the forefront of the Cook Islands rugby league in NZ and abroad for several years means he is well aware of the issues facing the grassroots of our sport. "H as the boys call him was the outstanding candidate from a large group of quality candidates and we are excited that one of our own has risen to lead the Richmond Rovers Rugby League club into the future.” "I am very excited and optimistic for the future of Richmond Rugby League- we certainly have the talent and commitment," said Turua. "I am aware of the challenges that face our boys and club as well as the game from across the sports sector and am confident that the coaching and training staff will continue to support our club’s efforts to retain the best up and coming talent and further improve what we have on offer as a family orientated club. "I would like to thank the board for their confidence in my appointment and the senior boys who have shared their support - I look forward to working with you all." Turua played rugby league through the grades. He has served as a strong leader and experienced player featuring in the national Bartercard cup, representative fixtures, Auckland Vulcans NSW Cup, and internationally as an integral player, coach (2013 World Cup) and management. A loyal stalwart of the Richmond Masters in recent years and continues to support the Richmond club. |
