RICHMOND ENTERS INTO NEW GYM HIRE ARRANGEMENT WITH SCHOOL OF HARD KNOX

As our members know, Richmond has had for some time a gym hire arrangement with Mickey B Fitness.  Richmond paid for access to the gym for all our members to foster their health and well-being.  Now that the late lamented Mickey Bryne has passed on, and Vicky has sold the business, our gym hire arrangement has come to an end. We are incredibly grateful to Mickey and Vicky for their support of our club over that time. Mickey was truly one of life’s characters and is missed still.

However, things always move on. Richmond Rovers is now excited to announce it has entered into a new gym hire arrangement with the Fort Knox Gym. Located at 562 Richmond Road, Richmond Rovers has paid for our members to use Fort Knox on the basis outlined below, at no further cost to our members.

  • Hours for personal gym use:

    • 1pm - 2pm
    • 4pm - 5:15pm - Monday and Wednesdays only
    • 6:45pm - 8.00pm - this time must be booked and supervised by a coach or senior leader who will take responsibility for players, equipment and gym cleanliness.

Round 8 Premiers vs Mangere East

On Saturday 08th August 2020 the Richmond Premiers played at a home game at Grey Lynn Park. A tough encounter was ensured with the Premiers going into the half time with a slim 16-6 score over the Hawks.

Thirty-six points in the second half saw Richmond win big 52-18 over Mangere East. Solid performing forwards Sione Ngahe, Captain Casey Lafaele and skilfully half back Maytricx Kauhiva each scoring twice in the win, which keeps Richmond inside the play-off positions after eight games.

Thanks to the travelling Hawks for a tough game. The final score did not reflect the effort of the team and Richmond wish you the best for the rest of the 2020 season.

Richmond Roses vs Papakura Match Report

The Tony Murray - Electrical Inspections Richmond Roses ventured out to Prince Edward Park to take on Papakura.

Papakura were quick out of the blocks scoring off their second set from an overlap. Off the return set there was some punishing defence led by Ruth Vae and Amber Hall. The Roses were able to force the turnover but were unable to secure possession themselves handing the ball over. Papakura found themselves in for another try. This conversion was successful to take the home team out to a 10-0 lead in as many minutes.

Papakura started to get the upper hand in the battle and found themselves dot down over the line to stretch the lead out to 14-0. Roses’ stand in half Apii Nicholls showed some nice footwork to elude multiple defenders as she cut across the field and get over the try line but unfortunately a double movement in the process meant the try was disallowed.

Some good go forward from Natasha Dallow and Amber Hall put the Roses in good attacking position allowing Apii  Nicholls to push a grubber through to the in goal area and with some nice pressure from the Roses right side they forced a repeat set. The battle continued with both teams trying to get control.

Both teams struggled to retain possession and complete their sets through the back end of the half until Papakura found themselves on the front foot with a couple minutes remaining and were able to cross the line. Kick unsuccessful & half time score was 18-0.

The second half got off to a quick start with Papakura scooping on a loose ball and worked their way down the field. The Roses were able to hold them out and work their way down the field on the following set.

Apii Nichols put a deep kick through and a good kick chase from her outsides saw the fullback caught in goal to get a repeat set. The Roses were unable to capitalise on the next set with Papakura shutting down the attack. Papakura scored down the edge to push the score out to 22-0.

Papakura were hot on attack again and attacking the short side late in the tackle count, pushing through a kick behind the line but fullback Rowena Meleisea was well positioned to secure the ball & attacked the line and getting a penalty to allow the Roses to kick themselves out of the red zone.

Possession changed back and forth with neither team able to gain control. The Roses started to get ball movement flowing and managed to link a few sets together to put them in good scoring positions. A nice switch from Apii and a good line run from Amber Hall saw her into space and power over for a try down the right side to put the Roses on the board 22-6.

An error from the restart saw Papakura secure possession. A couple of sets later they found a way over the line again to extend the lead out to 26-6.

The deep kick restart from Apii Nicholls saw the Roses awarded a goal line drop out. From this restart Natasha took a strong hit up followed by debutant Yasmin Puru-Tongia & then Ake Michael who made a strong carry and allowed the Roses move the ball from right to left with Jess Diamond scoring in the corner. Apii Nicholls slotted the conversion over from the side-line to see the score line now 26-12. A well-deserved win to Papakura.

Tries: Amber Hall, Jess Diamond
Conversions: Apii Nicholls 2/2

The Stone Solutions Player of the Day went to Lani Latoa-Williams (also taking the 3 points)
2pts – Yasmin Puru-Tongia (Roses Debut)
1pt – Rowena Meleisea

Thank you to our amazing sponsors:
Tony Murray of Tony Murray Electrical Inspections, Savi Hafoka of Stone Solutions and Marra Family

The Roses have next week off with a bye and then will be hosting Manurewa down Grey Lynn Park on Sunday 16th August. Come support our team social at the Grey Lynn Tavern next Saturday 8th August 2020 from 8pm.

Worthy of a Richmond club acknowledgement is the mammoth 118-10 win of the Richmond Premier 1st over Papakura Sea Eagles at Prince Edward Park.

22 tries scored, 15 converted with 6 tries to winger Ropati Tupai and 12 goals by Connor Jakson-Lopesi. Is this the largest recorded Richmond score line in our rich 100+ year history?
