The 2018 Richmond Rovers season is certainly underway with our Fox Premier team into their fourth game of the new season, and with a whole new team this year it’s taking a little while for the Steve Buckingham coached team to get used to each other’s play. We have recruited a few new players to fill in the gaps from last year’s team and we are positive that they will put it together in the coming weeks for their first win. They have so far showed very encouraging signs of becoming a great team once they get used to each other’s play and style. There is a long way to go and I’m sure they will come right and start playing some really exciting championship footy.
The Richmond Rovers Juniors also started their season last week and we have witnessed a lot of people and supporters getting down to a well-kept and looked after Grey Lynn park especially the number two field which looks in great order.
The senior ladies Richmond Roses team also kicked off their season last week against the newly formed Mt Albert ladies team, this team is also a fairly new team all-round with a whole new appointed Coaching staff of John Sekene and management team. We are all looking forward to their progress through this year with some new players joining the rank as well. We wish them all the very best for the coming season!
Some major achievements from our Club this year already has been the appointment of our Reserve coach Junior Fiu to the Warriors ISP Cup team as an assistant coach, also the exciting appointment of our own Luisa Avaiki as the first lady Coach for the Warriors NRL ladies team for this year, A huge congratulations to both of them, our club are very proud of their achievements, also another club legend Nigel Vagana has joined us this year helping out where ever he can, we really appreciate it very much
From the club’s point of view, the Richmond Club began very well this year with the Richmond Junior Academy kicking off our year with a huge turnout of 50-60 kids per session, thanks to all the volunteer co-ordinators, trainers and also some of the parents lending a hand for the kids games and drills.
A big thank you also goes out to the on-going support from our old boy and sponsor Peter Fell Ltd of the last five years. The Play group for 0-5 year olds has also started under the guidance of our very own Anna Lundon and also under way is our Home Work Center for the girls and boys to do their studies before training. We as a club are very proud of this program which has been promoted via the Auckland Rugby League to other league clubs with our very own Liz Ah Kuoi as the main facilitator. We as a Club are all very proud of her commitment and hard work to enhance and improve our kid’s education.
We returned for yet another year the Richmond Athletics Academy which was another Richmond club initiative under the leadership of Gerhard Sunborn and Carol Redman.
We look forward to your loyal support each week and your involvement in the community. As a club we are always striving to be the greatest club of all!
See you around the club sometime soon!
Best Regards
