Under 6s
Fun filled weekend  full of league. Saturday we were up against Marist and came away with a win  Richmond 20 Marist 12. Congratulations to our Player of the Day Nukutawhiti Gray  and our Runner Up Zephan Pita Lafaele. Sunday we had our gala
day and played a  total of 5 games against the following teams Papakura, Mangere East, Papatoetoe,  Pakuranga and Manurewa. Well done to our future little stars and a special Thank  You to our Parents for their support.

Under 7s
The pirates fielded a good, quick team that forced our boys to work  hard on defence. With a few good tries out wide and the pick-up of some loose  passes the pirates took the win by three tries Richmond 28 – Pt Chev 40. Good  effort however by the doggies and really good to see some keen players out there  rearing to go on the day.

Under 12s:  Richmond 16 vs Marist 10.
A real error -riddled effort from  Richmond saw Marist team take a 10 nil lead within five minutes. Poor handling  and mis-drected kick saw Marist score long-range tries. The Rovers finally woke  up and their pack of Denzel, JJ, Darius, Terekia, Rona & Zion ran with  greater intent making huge amounts of yards. By half-time the scores were level  through a typical Denzel bullocking run. The second try was a gem and a great  reward for Jordan who backed up Simi's big break and received the inside pass to  dot under the posts. The second half saw Richmond gain the ascendancy with Simi  scoring from halfway after some quick passing by the backs. The game was called  off seven minutes early due to a serious (not life-threatening-thankfully) to a  Marist player and the game being halted for over 5 minutes.
Player of the Day: Rona
Awards: Zion Epiha, Darius,  Jordan

Under 13s
Richmond under 13’s played  Northcote and won 54-0. The focus this week was on the marker chasing out and  putting heat on the 1st receiver. The Bulldogs did that very well and the Tigers  struggled against a determined defensive line. On the back of that, we had a lot  of possession and ran in 10 tries. One, a 98m intercept by Dylan Tavita and  Hayes Okesene getting a hat-trick. In all, a very pleasing team performance.  Half way through the season and everyone is putting in strong performances and  contributing to the team effort.
Player of the Day: Dylan Tavita
Best  Forward: Legacy Talagi-Tautuki & Hayes Okesene
Best Back:   Immanuel Ualika, Carlos Henry & Sam Tofa-Timoteo
Coaches  Award:   Fa’alolo
Selemaia & Ezael Tautuki

Under 15s: Richmond  90 v Bay Roskill Vikings  0.
After losing by 70 points to Otahuhu last week, this  was a 160 point turnaround- surely a Club record.  Best Forward Malrick  Lavea. Best back Elijah Ngamu, who was looking like a mini Jonah Lomu.  Big Ups  to Isaac Ah Kuoi-Atmore, Elijah and Conrad Collins who stayed on the field for  the next game to help out the u18s, who only had 11 players.  With no one  from the u16s and u17s offering to play, these three boys took up the challenge  and all stood their ground against boys 3 years older. A great show of Richmond  spirit.

Richmond under 16s, 58 vs Otara  16

Richmond Roses, 78 vs Papatoetoe  0.
Richmond Premiers, 34 vs Otara Scorpions 32

DOGGIES TAKE THE STING OUT OF OTARA

It was the third game (Game 12) in the second round of the Sharman Cup and the mighty Richmond Rovers travelled to Nagti Otara to play the second placed Otara Scorpions. In Round 3 we lost to Otara at home so we needed to front up in the forwards and dominate the ruck area as well as defend well outwide to have any chance of beating a well drilled side.

The go forward from the forwards was of high quality enabling the best opportunities from our half back and stand off combination of Josh Mana & Tama Gurthrie to continue their fine form from last weeks game against Glenfield greyhounds. The first half started slow with Otara scoring first , we then follow suit with a try to Faavae Toloua in the corner and Josh Mana slotting the conversion from the sideline to give us the lead 6-4 with only 15 minutes gone. Otara scored again out wide and then we scored two more tries to take us to the half time with a 16-8 lead. We had the wind in the first half so we were now playing against the wind and running up hill. Otara started strong scoring two tries in the first 15 minutes of the season half. We then scored two unconverted tries through some good finishing tries by Cale Baker & Josh Siaosi both scoring in the corner. With 20 minutes left in the game Richmond were leading 24-16. Otara found there second wind and went on a scoring spree scoring four tries with great momentum taking the lead 32-24. With our reserves bench down to only two players and with 10 minutes remaining Richmond managed to get a roll on with a couple of penalties. Momentum started to change thanks to a bustling run and unconverted try from prop forward Hector Purcell taking the to score 32-28. With five minutes remaining Richmond managed to force repeat sets and penalties to go our way and was back in Otara's half with merely minutes left in the game. With one set of six left Richmond had to use this well. On the back of four tackles Josh mana received the ball on the final tackle and kicked diagonally behind Otara's defence and this was regathered by a wide running Aaron Nootai (pictured) who scored under the posts this made it 32-32 and with time up the last act of the day went to Tama Guthrie who converted the try to allow one of the years upsets and the Richmond Premiers to come away winning 34-32.
PLAYERS OF THE DAY: Mia Tautiga & Bronson Harden.
Next week we play Mangere East Hawks at Grey Lynn Park. We would love your support as we look to continue our winning streak to push us in to the top four. ALL DAY DOGGIES!!!

DOGS DRAW WITH PANTHERS

16/6/2012

The Richmond Premiers played the SAS Sharman Cup competition leaders the Papatoetoe Panthers at there home ground. With a mixed week of training due to injuries there were the three players who pulled out for various reasons. No trouble as there was adequate cover from our developing and always pressing Premier 1st grade team. The Premiers did get out 17 players with inclusion of our Auckland Vulcan players: Aaron Nootai and Warriors full time contracted player Ivan Penehe. The Richmond team were hoping there experiences from the Auckland Vulcans would rub off to the other 15 players.

Missed first up tackles, forced errors in our half and penalties allowed Papatoetoe Panthers to a handy 22-12 lead going into the
break. The second half started well with the Premiers scoring two tries to Aukuso & Toleafoa Leaupepe with one conversion to make the score 22-22 with 25 minutes remaining. Dropped balls, lack of respect for the ball and referee allowed Papatoetoe to go on a scoring spree with three unanswered tries with only 1 kick over making the score 36-22 with ten minutes left in the game. Richmond were its our own worst enemy losing the ball in the first tackle  and in there own half. Defence was sound for the remainder of the game. Richmond built up some pressure in which outside back Edwin Pita scored crossing over to take the score to 36-26. With  seven minutes remaining  Richmond ran the ball on  the last  tackle down the blind side. Ivan managed to get some ground and before  being flung over the side line he flicked the ball back into the hands of  Captain Mia Tautiga who  went over to score untouched. Aukuso converted the try  to take the score to 36-32 still to  the Panthers.

The Panthers took there time returning the ball back for kick off. As the home team kicked off the hooter  sounded for full time. Richmond earned a penalty as the Panthers defence were  well in front of the kicker. Aaaron Nootai kicked the ball out to gain another  20 metres. The Premier boys knew the last stoppage will be full time so decided  to tap the ball and passed it from one side of the field to the other. Utility  player Josh Sioasi found a gaping whole on the edge in which he drew in his  winger and passed to Ivan who sprinted down the line to score an awesome try in  the corner. So this made it 36 all with the kick to come. This unfortunately was missed however the boys showed a lot of character and belief.

Special mention to Ivan Penehe, Aaron Nootai who put the extra effort in. Also an honourable mention for Fia who was brought into this game from the Premier 1st and helped us.

PREMIERS PUT SOLID WIN TOGETHER OVER GREYHOUNDS

The Richmond Premiers played Glenfield greyhounds at Sunnynook park, Glenfield. After losing to Elleslie Eagles the week before we had to step up if we were to take something out of this 2012 season. Going into this game we knew we had to start well as Glenfield were above us on 10 points and Richmond sitting on 6. The Richmond boys started well in the first half going up 16-6 before the rain began to pour.
With our halves Josh Mana and Tama Guthrie directing the team around the park we were making big advances up the field. With depth and pin point kicking from our halves we managed to pin Glenfield in there own half. Our defence worked well and forced mistakes from the home team. With this we scored mutlple tries to full back Savi Hafoka, half back Josh Mana, prop forward Junior Uale (pictured) and finished the game on a 32-16 winning high. This was a big effort from all the boys. Stand out players included: James Finlayson, Ioane Godinet, Mia Tautiga and the forward pack. Player of the days were Joseph Alesi (Backs) & Junior Uale (Forwards).

HAWKES TAKE WIN AT GREY LYNN PARK

9/6/2012

In Round 12 Richmond had gathered some momentum and much needed confidence after a solid win over Glenfield. The team trained well and despite injuries to key players the boys who filled in were very capable of maintaining the team structure. The Richmond Premier team with a home ground advantage started very well with some fine team tries being scored to head in to the half time lead 22-6 ahead of the Hawkes. Defence was a key to the Premier team as it had every chance to finish off the Hawkes in the second half. In front of a very vocal crowd Mangere started off the second half with three unanswered tries and it
seemed Richmond were out on its feet giving up further tries. A lot was said at full time about the importance of completing sets, commitment and  urgency.

BATTLE OF THE DOGS

2/6/2012

In Round 11 the Richmond Rovers Premier grade played Glenfield Greyhounds at Glenfield's home ground. After a disappointing loss to the Ellerslie Eagles who were celebrating there 100th Centenary the boys knew they needed to step up if they are to get there season off the ground. With Glenfield sitting four points ahead the Richmond Premier team knew they had to start well with hard working defence, good field position and solid ball  possession.

With our halves Josh Mana and Tama Guthrie  directing the team around the park this provided many opportunities which were  converted in to tries. The Richmond forwards dominated there opposition in the  ruck area and moved the opposition backs across the field. The boys started well  in the first half shooting to a 16-6 lead before heading in to the half  time avoiding the
heavy rain down pour.

With the big  advances up the field from the tireless Richmond forwads and pinning  of Glenfield in there own half  the Richmond Premiers managed to score further  tries to Savi Hafoka, Josh and Junior Uale to come away with a 32-16 win. This was a big effort from all the boys. Stand out players included utility  player James Finlayson, outside back Ioane Godinet, captain Mia Tautiga and the  formiddable forwards.
