New Zealand Rugby League (NZRL) has inducted, for the first time in its history, four Kiwi Ferns to its prestigious Legends of League. Congratulations to our very own Richmond Rose player - Kiwi Fern legend - Luisa Avaiki (pictured right) who now joins the esteemed Legends’ Club. How lucky are we to have her down at the Richmond club, sharing her knowledge and skill set with our young woman! Giving back at its absolute best!

NZRL Legends of League inducts four Kiwi Ferns for the first time
For the first time in its history, the NZRL has inducted four Kiwi Ferns to its prestigious Legends of League.

Kiwi Fern legends, Luisa Avaiki, Nadene Conlon, Trish Hina and Leah Witehira now join the esteemed Legends’ Club alongside eight new Kiwis inductees; Kevin Iro, Stacey Jones, James Leuluai, Sir Graham Lowe, Dane O’Hara, Quentin Pongia, Howie Tamati and Ruben Wiki.

The key criteria to be recognised for the Legends of League were longevity, leadership, achievement, and performance at international level (first and foremost), as well as club and provincial level; enhancing rugby league’s standing in New Zealand; and post-playing contribution to the game.

Having been retired for at least five years – a directive since the establishment of the Legends of League in 1995 – remains a requirement. READ MORE

This Saturday we will see the celebration of the Eddie Poching Memorial Cup. Our Richmond Premiers will be challenging the visiting and defending Marist Saints who both share the great privilege of knowing and sharing the memory of this great man!

He was a long life standing member at the Marist Rugby League Club and was a pioneer for Pasifika players creating Samoa Rugby League and also helping to establish the Marist Richmond Brothers (Bartercard Cup era) within the Marist Saints club. Known for providing a voice for our Pasifika Players and creating an avenue where players and families alike can share his love for the game of Rugby League he gave everything to the game.

It is evident seeing his daughter Tarsh Ieremia and her family providing coaching and rugby league support across the Marist club and Akarana representative teams over many years. Eddie depicted the very foundations the Marist club is based on: Loyalty, Family and Faith. We thank the Poching aiga for their service but mainly the man who knew the power and glory of pushing all our Pasifika families and community with his commitment and love for the game. They continue his legacy which we are proud to be a part in this Saturday's game.

Where: Grey Lynn Park.
When: 2.30pm kick off. 12.45pm Premier 1st.

A big weekend ahead for our Richmond club with the Richmond Tokes 50th year anniversary celebrations! This is a massive achievement for our Tokelaun community and Richmond Tokes brothers especially the players who wore those same jerseys in 1972 up until this day.

Come on down to Grey Lynn Park and join in the festivities from this Saturday 12.45pm kick off and entertainment into the evening at the club room and then again this Sunday with the Richmond Masters hosting the monthly event. A special 12.00pm Richmond Tokes All Stars will be playing against our Richmond Masters team.

There will be some awesome weekend celebrations, battered bodies (and egos), and great fun for all. These will events not to be missed!

Congratulations to two of our Under 14s Rosebuds who represented the Te Mahurehure Hokianga Storm Under 13 Kotiro team at the first New Zealand Maori Rugby League (NZMRL) Kotiro tournament held in Rotorua during the weekend of Matariki.

Sari Iefata - Captain (left) and Te Ahurei Latu (right) secured third place!

Congratulations to NZMRL who ran a two day tournament that focused solely on girls in rugby league, the competition had grades ranging from Under 13 to Under 18s and successfully hosted a total of 37 teams.

Awesome to see the rural areas of New Zealand link up with other regions and produce some very impressive talent. The future is bright for our young girls. Thank you NZMRL for creating opportunities and pathways for our young woman in league.

Pasifika recognised in Queen's Birthday Honours List

Congratulations to two amazing Richmond Rovers RLSC club stalwarts Neta Peau and Luther Toloa for their outstanding work to the Tokelaun & Pacific community.

Huge congratulations to you both on your achievement:
* To be a member of the NZ order of Merit : Tolupene Peau to the Tokelau Community.
* The Queens service medal Luther Toloa for services to the Pacific Community.

Rugby league is often forgotten as a grassroots sport whereby your value return is in the joy of giving rather than receiving from others. Whether it is time, service, donations, fundraising, or friendship it is always important to ask yourself what more can I do to help my community to be better?

Thank you for continuing to be of service to others and for the inspiration. We’re proud of you both Neta and Luther and are honoured to have you in our Richmond & Grey Lynn community!
