Very good team performance today by our 2022 Tony Murray Electrical Inspections Richmond Roses, convincingly beating a very solid and determined Taniwharau side 34-10 at Opaheke Park.
Tries to: Claudia Hanham (Crash), Rowena Meleisea-Koonwaiyou (2), Waiana Jones, Kaiyah Atai, Charlise Tumu- Makara and Laishon Jones who also kicked 3 conversions. Difficult for coaches to pick 3 players for P.O.D. as was very much a team effort on defence especially. Many players stood up today which is exciting signs for the season ahead and future of the Richmond Roses. Congratulations to Players of the Day: Kahurina Cassidy (3 points) at prop for her relentless work on defence and effective multiple hit ups; Kaiyah Atai (2 points) at second row for her defensive work on the edge and also consistent effort on attack creating speedy opportunities both for herself and others; and Laura Mariu (1 point) at prop for her inspirational work for the team in both defence and attack. Please come out and support our Tony Murray Roses team as we take on local rivals Ponsonby Ponies in the curtain raiser Premier Fox men's game at Grey Lynn Park #2, at 12.45pm Our Richmond Rovers Premier First opened the 2022 season with a good Round 1 36-32 win over Pakuranga Jaguars and Round 2 64-4 in over Mangere East Hawks
Streamed live on May 14, 2022 Join us for this round 2 matchup in the 2022 SAS Sports Fox Memorial Premiership - Auckland's top rugby league competition. Mangere East take on the Richmond Rovers, live from Walter Massey Park, Auckland. Content produced by www.thestreamshop.live It’s an exciting season ahead for our 2022 Tony Murray Richmond Roses Premier Women's Team – 2021 featured a new look team and in 2022 the Roses have much of the returning flair with plenty of young talent coming through our well-established Richmond Rosebud junior grades. As well as a dose of experienced Richmond ladies and an injection of new players to our mighty family club our Richmond club supporters will be excited with the mix of youth and experience particularly with returning Kiwi Fern veterans Laura Mariu, Charlotte Scanlan, and Juliana (Jules) Newman. Roses 2022 Captain Maraea Ah Kuoi- Atmore (only 20 years old) is a great example of our young talent and leaders. Maraea captained the Roses for the second half of the 2021 Season when Charlotte Scanlan was involved with the Newcastle Knights NRLW and her maturity and selfless dedication to the Roses team and club on and off the field has earned her the Roses Captaincy role for 2022. Vice Captain’s Kahurina (Kahu) Cassidy and Juliana (Jules) Newman are two very exciting, dynamic, and vocal players who both also deserve their leadership roles. Players who are currently part of the wider Kiwi Ferns Squad include: Kaiyah Atai, Shaniece Monschiau, Charlotte Scanlan, Laishon Jones, Mela Maxine-Vili, and Lydia Quedley. Our 2022 Roses Staff are Anthony Murray (“Ants” - Head Coach) with Tash Davies and Sam Mamea (Assistant Coaches), Keneti Ah Kuoi-Atmore (Trainer) and Liz Ah Kuoi (Manager). Coach Ants says, “Our girls are progressing and developing well, it will be exciting to see what they can do on the field. Importantly, the culture is good and I’m sure the Roses ladies will do the Jersey, Club, families, supporters and Sponsors proud each time they take the field”. Our 2022 Tony Murray Richmond Roses Premier Team has been very fortunate to have some fantastic generous support from awesome businesses who are connected to our Players and Staff and our team would like to publicly acknowledge and thank our Tony Murray Richmond Roses Premier Women's team sponsors for 2022: Tony Murray Electrical Inspections (Major sponsor), Creative Kitchens, Russells Curtains, Ah Kuoi & Atmore Residential, and BFT Ponsonby. The Richmond Rovers Rugby League club has today announced the renewed alliance with Waterview Laundromat as a minor sponsor of the Richmond Premiers.
Waterview Laundromat, who have a historic relationship with Richmond Rovers rugby league stretching back over many years, have re-signed a new one year agreement that will see the Richmond’s Premier team proudly sporting the Waterview Laundromat logo on the Richmond Premiers playing strip. Richmond Chairman Nigel Vagana stated, ‘’We are delighted to re-join forces with an iconic Auckland business such as Waterview Laundromat and thrilled that they have committed to being associated with the Richmond Premiers in their Fox Memorial Shield competition quest. We’re really excited about continuing this relationship with a long-time supporter of our club." "The Premier team is well represented with a number of players training with or having been involved in the Junior Warriors Development team. The club as a whole is evolving with junior and senior player participation at the Richmond club on the rise. We look forward to continuing our great form and with Waterview Laundromat in support of our Premier club team we believe our club will continue to compete in the toughest grassroots competition in New Zealand –the Fox Memorials shield competition in 2022.” The Richmond Rovers club has been a part of the Auckland’s fabric for over 100 years, with Waterview Laundromat on board this commitment clearly highlights Waterview Laundromat’s loyalty to the region and its premier sporting code. Waterview Laundromat Business Manager, Divesh Kumar noted the sponsorship further cemented Waterview Laundromat’s commitment to the region and would help grow awareness of the brand across Auckland. “As Waterview Laundromat’s local supplier for everyday laundry services we’re passionate about our community and making it a strong, vibrant place for us all to live in. Our sponsorship of the Richmond Rovers club and Premier team is proof of this commitment.” “We’ve been the sponsor of the Richmond Rovers Junior club over many seasons so continuing to sponsor the Richmond Premiers really was a natural progression. We’re proud to be associated with a strong performing organisation like the Richmond Rovers Rugby League & Sports club and we’re looking forward to cheering on our team this season.” Divesh Kumar further stated. ![]() Auckland Rugby League club the Richmond Rovers today announced that LJ Hooker Ponsonby has renewed major sponsorship for the 2022 season as sleeve rights of the Richmond Rovers Premier Team. The partnership complements the real estate’s relationship with Richmond members who are influential community-engaged residents supporting the first grade side of a Fox Memorial first division team. It also builds on the company’s role as preferred real estate agent for the local Grey Lynn, Ponsonby and Western Springs area which many club members reside in. Announcing the sponsorship, owner Steven Glucina said backing the Richmond club was a great alignment for the real estate agent where Glucina has been major sponsor of the 2011-2012 Richmond Junior Academy, Richmond’s 2013 Championship Under 20s and the Premier team since 2014. “Through our partnership with Richmond, the LJ Hooker Ponsonby logo will appear on the Premier team’s playing jerseys, as well as other official team apparel and ground signage at Grey Lynn Park for the 2022 season,” Mr Glucina said. Richmond club members and supporters can also expect to see plenty of the LJ Hooker Ponsonby brand during the season. As a long-time sponsor of sports across Auckland, LJ Hooker Ponsonby is known for supporting and enhancing spectator and fan experience. Richmond Chairman Nigel Vagana said he was "delighted to welcome back a good community friend LJ Hooker Ponsonby to the sponsor family." “The LJ Hooker Ponsonby partnership is a significant 2022 sponsorship agreement for the Richmond club and we welcome them back to the sponsor family. The LJ Hooker Ponsonby brand will take pride of place on both our playing and training apparel,” Mr Vagana said. Richmond Rovers Rugby League Club is proud to announce the return of sponsor The Surrey Hotel in 2022.
The Surrey Hotel in Grey Lynn has realigned themselves with one of the oldest and largest sports clubs in the inner Auckland city region as a returning sponsor. It is exciting times for the club with the growth of rugby league continuing through the exposure of its players represented in the Vodafone Warriors and International rugby league teams (including woman's grades). This relationship was forged in 2013 when Richmond celebrated its 100th centenary year over the Queen’s birthday weekend. Since then both the Richmond club and The Surrey Hotel have enjoyed many events including Richmond Senior End of Year Award Prize Giving evenings, social club events and Richmond Board meetings. The Surrey Hotel’s high profile sits comfortably with Richmond’s own profile within the larger Grey Lynn community. Club Chairman Nigel Vagana commented “it is tough for the Richmond Rovers club to maintain our high standards both on the field and off. The generous support of The Surrey Hotel allows us to continue our development. As a local sports club we are continuing to set a high benchmark for our club both on and off the field”. We can only do this off the back of generous sponsors. Denise King of The Surrey Hotel, added “The Surrey Hotel is delighted to be again partner with one of Grey Lynn’s, if not the greater inner city regions, most successful sports clubs which has had over 50 Kiwi International players developed from this local club. We see it as a great opportunity to assist the club with the development of their junior and senior players from the Richmond juniors ages five up to the Premiers as well as senior Masters (35+ year old) club members. The Richmond club is dedicated to making rugby league accessible and fun for everyone from the social player to those more serious”. Over recent years the Richmond Rovers club has developed a strong and growing Richmond Junior Academy programme which assists younger players who show talent early on and helps them progress into potentially representing rep teams and maybe even New Zealand one day.

The AGM reflected on an encouraging financial performance and a strong rebuild post the initial impact of COVID-19, as RRRLSC Treasurer Graeme Atmore announced a $23,000 profit. Atmore said, “We are in a great financial position following a minor loss ($1,800) in 2020 largely due to COVID-19 disruptions. In 2019 we reported a profit of $18,000 which was a vast improvement from when the club was in dire straits in 2010 and 2011 when Gus (Chairman) and I helped to raise funds to pay all debts totalling $46,000 in 2012 and reporting a $30,000 profit turn around in our 2013 100th year Richmond club Centennial. “The growth of our Foundation Club membership currently at 68 members and goal to have 100 members in 2022 has improved our financial sustainability and will support increased investment into our club facilities including our new club gym and club room upgrades. This is a substantial improvement our loyal club members deserve after we worked tirelessly with the Auckland City Council and Waitemata Local Board to attain our new changing room block in 2020.” The 2022 AGM also saw Graeme Atmore retire from his role as Treasurer with former Kiwi International centre and Richmond junior and current Masters player Nigel Vagana voted in as the new chair of RRRLSC. Newly elected Treasurer, Patrick Tia, brings significant financial experience coupled with a dedication to rugby league and an admiration for its impact. Junior Convenor Tala Tuisila said, “Firstly, I’d like to congratulate Graeme and Gus on the huge contribution and leadership they have provided during their time as Treasurer and Chairman”. “Their leadership and outstanding service and dedication over the last ten years have seen them guide and lead the Richmond club successfully through some trying times. It’s an honour to have worked with them and with Nigel and Pat on board it is exciting to have some new and exciting blood to help. As a Board we will wish them well with a farewell dinner in coming weeks and no doubt will see them supporting Richmond throughout the year”. Fepuleai adds, “In my ten years as Chairman, I have learnt so much about what a difference rugby league can make. The Richmond rugby league community has inspired me with the passion and heart that they bring to the game and the good the game does for all. “I’m grateful to have played an ongoing part in the direction and growth of rugby league for Richmond but also in growing our game in New Zealand, as collectively, we look to achieve great things for our game, communities and people. It was my privilege to have been appointed as Chairman and I wish Nigel and the Board the very best success.” Tuisila said: “Nigel is well respected in the rugby league community, and his experience, passion and connection to our game make him a valuable addition to our club and sport. We are very fortunate to have two candidates of this calibre join our Richmond club Board.” Secretary Anna Lundon, Junior Convenor Tala Tuisila, and Senior Convenor Tony Taylor return in their respective Board elected roles.
