
Ponsonby got out to a quick start scoring early, kick unsuccessful 4-0 to the Ponies.
Early in the game two Roses players went down injured in separate incidents whereby the team loss Captain Georgia Hale.
The Roses had to regroup after this stoppage in play, and it was Shee Nathan-Wong who was able to find her way over the line to score. Kick unsuccessful 4-4.
From the kick restart the Roses failed to secure the ball and possession was handed over to Ponsonby allowing Ponsonby to apply the pressure whereby the Roses defended their try line for consecutive sets.
Ponsonby’s defence was up to the task and didn’t allow the Roses many opportunities to get over the half. Eventually Ponsonby were able to find a hole in the Roses defence scoring on the edges. Kick was successful for Ponsonby to take the lead back 10-4.
Backrower Madison Bartlett made a breakthrough the mid field before offloading to support runner full back Api Nicholls but were unable to turn the possession into points.
Ponsonby were again quick out of the blocks scoring a nice try from their first set making use of their overlap to score down the edge. Kick successful to extend their lead out to 16-4 to Ponsonby.
Ponsonby were able to get the upper hand on the Roses and took control for much of the second half running in three more tries with one successful conversion, 30-4 to Ponsonby.
The Roses showed glimpses of attacking plays however this was met by some strong defence by Ponsonby who was able to stop whatever the Roses threw at them. Forward Quick thinking from Amber Hall had put up a kick which was charged down which saw her regather the ball and shoot off down the right edge linking up with Shee, Shonny & Madison who made her way down the line only to be cut down short of the try line. The following tackle saw Shontelle Woodman dart under the closing defenders to score by the goal post. Conversion was successful to make the score 30-10 to Ponsonby. Ponsonby taking out a well-deserved, 30-10 win. The Richmond club would like to wish our Captain Georgia a speedy recovery.
