Richmond Bulldogs premier team assistant Ricky Henry has been named as the new Kiwi Ferns head coach ahead of the 2021 Rugby League World Cup. Henry spent this year working with Richmond’s SAS Fox Memorial Premiership team alongside head coach Junior Fiu, helping coach a side which included his son Carlos. Previously Henry served as the head coach of the Auckland Vulcans during their time in the NSW Cup competition, while more recently he held numerous roles with the New Zealand Warriors and worked as a Kiwi Ferns assistant. Henry told the New Zealand Rugby League it was a privilege to lead the team into next year’s World Cup. “I am passionate about the long term success of women's rugby league and building a strong foundation for the future,” Henry said. “It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to coach these elite women athletes.” Fiu said he was delighted to see Henry given the opportunity. “I’m really happy for him. Ricky is really knowledgeable and probably in a technical sense one of the best coaches I have worked with,” Fiu said. “He added plenty to our campaign with Richmond this year.” | |
